A Quick Recap

In Part One, we explored why sleep is far more than simply "rest." While we sleep, our brains organize memories, our immune systems recharge, our hearts and blood vessels recover, hormones are balanced and our bodies repair themselves. Poor sleep isn't just frustrating. It has been linked to heart disease, diabetes, obesity, depression, memory problems, and a higher risk of accidents.

We also discussed the three most common sleep disorders: insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea, and restless legs syndrome. Understanding which of these conditions may be affecting your sleep is the first step toward finding the right treatment. The encouraging news is that most sleep disorders can be successfully treated once the underlying cause is identified.

Now let's turn our attention to the next question: What can you do to sleep better? We'll look at natural approaches that are supported by research, and share practical strategies you can begin using tonight to improve the quality of sleep.
