Newsletter #4: Organic Food

Writer: AdminAdmin

Get your Covid shot yet? Finding a center to get your shot can be extremely frustrating. As more age groups are opened up, it may be even tougher. There is a new website that might help.

If you go to www.vaccinefinder.org you can put in your zip code and it will list current availability for the three vaccines. If you are so inclined, you can even pick the vaccine you want!  I have a slight preference for the Pfizer vaccine, but I really feel all three are fine.

Is organic really better? The answer is....sometimes. Many foods can be heavily contaminated with pesticides and other cancer-causing agents through the growing process. It may be best to purchase these as organically grown if possible. Each year the Environmental Working Group(EWG) puts out their list of the DIRTY DOZEN. These are the twelve most contaminated foods. For 2021, the list is as follows:

1. Strawberries

2. Spinach

3. Cale, collared, and mustard greens

4. Nectarines

5. Apples

6. Grapes

7. Cherries

8. Peaches

9. Pears

10. Bell and hot peppers

11. Celery

12. Tomatoes

However, there are a variety of conventionally growing foods that are safe. The list of the EWG CLEAN 15 is below:

1. Avocados

2. Sweet corn

3. Pineapple

4. Onions

5. Papaya

6. Sweet peas

7. Eggplant

8. Asparagus

9. Broccoli

10. Cabbage

11. Kiwi

12. Cauliflower

13. Mushrooms

14. Honeydew melon

15. Cantaloupe
